Random Finishes

I had the most relaxing weekend.  Translate that statement to I didn't do much.  Oh well.

Friday - I have been labeled as the weirdest mom ever.  Right after work on Friday I got a box from the garage storage of Thing 2's school work.  Yes, I kept every paper they brought home and put them in a box.  Out of that box, 90% went to the trash, 9% scanned and only1 % was kept.  Thing 2 kept asking me "Why did you keep this?"  Only about 20 boxes more to go!

Saturday - The house was painted a year ago.  They took the downspouts off to paint and put them back up when they were done.  They told me then to go buy a fastener and they would put it on.  I did not.  One year later, the downspout is once again attached to the house.  Yeah for me!

Sunday - Fall Yard Prep continues.  I cleaned the area between the garage and fence.  Where all things I did not want to deal with go.  Most of it went to the trash.  Parts are being ordered for the grill, fence is another project, winter tires for truck.  I loaded the cement edgers to a cart and put on craiglist.  The last piece of fencing was put up.  It only took 3 years.

What a great weekend!

Happy Rosh Hashanah!

I have discovered over my many years that short weeks are the longest.  This week only proved I was correct.  I'm fighting with Thing 2's doctor, he broke his glasses, eye exam, order new glasses, go to work. get Dallas groomed and clean house.  Only do all of this in less days.

I only have one finish for this week and I'm sorry to say it is not any thing I made.  I finished a book, Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum.  I wasn't sure about the book at first but in the end I liked it.  I thought it would be about the Holocaust, saving Jews and surviving while doing this but it wasn't.  It was about the Germans during the war and how they survived and how they tried to help.  While this is a novel and I do not know if it is historically accurate I guess I have never looked at that side.  Very interesting book.  What would you be willing to do to survive?

This week is starting to look very busy but this year more than in the past I'm looking forward to the Days of Awe, Reflection and Atonement.  I'm ready for the new year.   I'm hoping 5776 is much better than the past year, easier and more productive.

End of Summer

I love Labor Day Weekend!  The unofficial end of summer!  I hate summer!  I hate the heat!  I hate paying for the air conditioner!  Usually by now everything is dead from the heat but this year we have had record breaking rain in Kansas and everything is still green.  It hasn't been a horrible year for the heat.  It's got over 100 many times, including Saturday, but it's been ok.  By next weekend it's forecasted to be in the 70s-80s.  And with any luck  we are done with the 90s.

Labor Day is my official weekend to start getting the yard ready for winter.  It seems every year that there is so much to do.  I have started again this year.  The front yard is done.  I would like to put a couple bags of dirt near the house but over all it done.  As I'm looking at the pictures I see several things I want to do but overall it's ready.

We still have green grass

No more weeds
My other finish was framing finished cross stitch.  I had to paint 4 of the frames.  You would think this would not be a big finish but I have had some of these sitting around for years.  I didn't even frame everything but I did frame 6!

Took 2 years but finished for this year

My 6 framed cross stitch

The other thing I worked on was one of my started quilts.  This if from the October 2011 magazine I have on my side bar.  I didn't finish but I made progress.  I would like to finish everything started before starting anything new.  I have had this plan for awhile but I keep starting new quilts and cross stitch.
This was my inspiration

Blocks I made
All in all it's been a great weekend.  This is one of my little helpers, Charlie.  He has been in the middle of everything we  have done this weekend.  He even rode along to the drive through at McDonalds.  I was trying to take pictures of the frames and blocks and had to keep chasing him off.  He wants to be in the middle of the action all of the time.
